Both of the new elements are highly radioactive and exist for less than a second before decaying into lighter atoms.
Two new elements have been added to the periodic table following a three-year review by an international team of chemists and physicians.
Conducted by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), the review concluded that elements 114 and 116 fulfilled the criteria for official inclusion in the table.
According to the report published in the journal Pure and Applied Chemistry, the new elements have been temporarily named ununquadium and ununhexium.

The periodic table is the official compendium of known elements, organized according to properties of their atomic structure.
